Why Choose Rongai Route?

The Rongai Route stands out as the exclusive path commencing from the northern circuit, offering an untouched journey with enhanced wildlife visibility. Along this route, one can spot large antelopes, elephants, and buffalo. With a favorable success rate, the Rongai route minimizes altitude-related challenges, providing a flatter terrain compared to other Kilimanjaro routes. This allows trekkers to sleep at lower elevations and spend extended periods in the mountains. The Rongai route accommodates both 6-day and 7-day itineraries, with the latter highly recommended for optimal acclimatization.

Being one of the shorter Kilimanjaro routes, the Marangu route is associated with a relatively subpar acclimatization profile, resulting in a low summit success rate. Although there are no official statistics available, the average success rate across all Kilimanjaro operators it stands at 50%. This indicates that the likelihood of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route is not particularly high.

What is the Rongai Route's success rate?

The success rate for the Rongai Route is over 80%  with the standard 6-day itinerary, and it reaches up to 90% success rate with the extended 7-day itinerary. The Rongai route’s 7-day version provides an extra day for proper acclimatization, allowing for accommodation at lower elevations and more time spent on higher mountains. This extended itinerary is the primary factor contributing to its impressive 90% success rate. Meanwhile, the Rongai route’s 6-day itinerary maintains an 85% success rate, and the success rate can be further increased by adding an extra day to the same itinerary.

How Hard is Rongai Route?

The Rongai route is categorized as a moderate path, featuring a gradual and not overly strenuous elevation gain. Nonetheless, being one of Kilimanjaro’s shorter routes, some climbers may be susceptible to altitude sickness due to its less-than-ideal route profile.
